in all my years

just a young boy
trying to figure out
what makes the world go ’round

trying to skip stones
‘cross the fishing hole
halfway, down down it goes

just a young girl
leaning how to dance
without risking the chance
hoping for a hero
as she is dressing up
waiting for him to come

In all my years, I’ve never seen
Anything different than this
In all my years, it’s always seemed
we choose the destiny we’ll miss
I know in my head, I’ve got to be wrong
In my heart, something different
In all my years I’ve heard this song
playing when others didn’t

just an old man
trying to write it down
all the widsoms he has found
trying to skip stones
on the surface of the lake
counting the skips he makes

just a woman
finding music to dance
in every chosen chance
found there’s a Hero
so now’s she’s dressing up
waiting for Him to come

In all my years, it’s always seemed
we choose the destiny we’ll miss
In all my years I’ve heard this song
playing when others didn’t
