story

my daddy told me his story
about when he was just a boy
on a stump in a cotton field
trying to hear God speak

He remembered that day, I know,
Like it was the day before
And he told me his story
To help me believe

that the Lord helps those who
need his help
He hears those who take
time to yell
When the world is
spinning down like hell
There’s just one story to tell
Tell it often, tell it well

Paul walkin down the highway
To get to town by the next day
Sidetracked by a voice that said
You don’t know who you’ve wounded

He remembered that day, I know,
Like it was the day before
And he wrote down his story
To help you and me believe

that the Lord helps those who
need his help
He hears those who take
time to yell
When the world is
spinning down like hell
There’s just one story to tell
Tell it often, tell it well

tell it to your children
as you tuck them into bed
tell it to the voices
arguing in your head
tell it to those around you
the well and walking wounded
tell the story that never ends

I was just a young boy
sitting in the last pew
Writing down a story
When I heard someone tell me

that the Lord helps those who
need his help
He hears those who take
time to yell
When the world is
spinning down like hell
There’s just one story to tell
Tell it often, tell it well

  1. “What is faith? Is it to believe that which is evident? No. It is perfectly evident to my mind that there exists a necessary, eternal, supreme, and intelligent being. This is no matter of faith, but of reason”: Voltaire
