one thing leads to another

the music stops, but we wait for more
I can hear a distant voice calling
“don’t be tripping on the dance floor;
soon you’ll find yourself falling”

one thing leads to another
better watch your step
the first one you take won’t be the last
and soon your future becomes your past
before you take that first one,
remember the warning of our mothers:
one thing leads to another

it was that glance that drew me in
now I’m in deep, uhuh, less or more
a look, a hand, and then that one kiss
now there’s no need to lock the door

like dominoes lined up all in a row
every dot-to-dot is connected
standing there, and then falling too
it’s just what we all expected

one thing leads to another
better watch your step
the first one you take won’t be the last
and soon your future becomes your past
before you take that first one,
remember the warning of our mothers:
one thing leads to another

a step of faith filled with reasons
questions about the truth
partial steps that need completin
— unmistakable grace that is leading to you
